A Quick Guide to the Charrette Schedules

First of all, to get a sense of what a charrette is and is not, go here.

Since charrettes thrive on public participation, all of the meetings and events on these schedules are open to everyone. We would love as many people as possible to attend as many of the sessions as possible. That's the best way to watch the process build steam as it moves through the week. But we realize your time is valuable. So here are some suggestions about how to get the most out of the time you have;

-- If you can only come to one event, make it the final presentation in the theater at the University Center at Western Carolina University on Tuesday, May 20, at 6:30 p.m.

-- If you can only come for part of one day, look at the schedules for topic meetings of special interest to you, and come to those. Stick around for daily 5:30 p.m. "pin-up" sessions in which the design team posts and discusses work in progress. Again, all sessions are open to everyone.

-- If you are especially interested in issues focusing directly on landscapes and community character in a rural mountain valley, look in on the Cowee Charrette in North Macon County. If you're interested in the opportunities and challenges of collaborative planning for a unique mountain hamlet or village, check out the Cashiers Charrette in the Cowee Valley. Their schedules can be found here.
